The very first Drôle d’époque piece.
This is where Drôle d’époque began.
I wanted to create a quality T-shirt with a slightly cheeky embroidery—the kind of detail that makes you smile when you notice it.
For the first design, subtlety was never really the plan: ALCOOLIQUE.
A deliberately offbeat embroidery that sums up the spirit I want for the brand: quality clothing that does not take itself too seriously.
A true heavyweight T-shirt.
For this first design, I did not want to start with a basic T-shirt chosen only for its price.
I chose a Made in USA 🇺🇸 base in 280 GSM heavyweight 100% cotton, with a dense knit that gives the T-shirt genuine structure.
The fabric is also pre-washed to reduce shrinkage after the first washes.
I deliberately chose American manufacturing over a standard blank mass-produced in Vietnam or Bangladesh. The idea is simple: start with a great garment before adding my embroidery.
An oversized, boxy fit.
The fit is oversized and boxy, with a wide body, dropped shoulders and a slightly shorter length than a classic oversized T-shirt.
The 280 GSM fabric brings weight and structure. The T-shirt drapes cleanly, does not cling to the body and holds its shape better.
ALCOOLIQUE.
This is, of course, the centrepiece of the first design.
A custom-made embroidery with real texture and depth, rather than a simple print placed on the fabric.
I wanted something slightly absurd, unapologetic and instantly recognisable.
A beautiful T-shirt. Beautiful embroidery. And ALCOOLIQUE written across it.
That sums up the beginning of Drôle d’époque rather well.
